Macedon AR Tetradrachm Alexander III 336-323 BC XF (Random Coin)
Struck during the monumental era of Alexander III, also known as Alexander the Great, this silver tetradrachm from ancient Macedon represents a high point of classical numismatic artistry. Weighing between 16 to 17.5 grams and measuring 27 to 31 millimeters in diameter, the substantial silver piece served as a primary medium of exchange across a vast ancient territory. The obverse of the coin features a powerful right-facing bust of Heracles, the mythical hero, draped in his signature lion skin. This iconic imagery connects the Macedonian rulers with divine strength and heroic lineage, rendered in the expressive style of the late fourth century BC. On the reverse, the design depicts Zeus seated on a throne, facing left. The king of the gods holds an eagle and a sceptre, symbols of supreme authority. Accompanying this majestic scene is the Greek inscription ALEXANDROY, which names the ruler. While individual specimens feature varying control monograms, each coin in this series, preserved in Extra Fine condition, offers a direct visual link to the ancient Mediterranean world.
