This silver tetradrachm, preserved in Very Fine condition, serves as a tangible survivor from this transitional era of ancient history, spanning the years 167 to 148 BC. The obverse of the coin showcases a distinctive Macedonian shield. At the very center of this defensive emblem is a detailed bust of Artemis Tauropolos, the goddess of the hunt. This design choice beautifully merges civic pride with divine protection, placing the deity directly onto the traditional armor of the region. On the reverse, the imagery shifts to a powerful central club, an attribute closely associated with Herakles. This symbol is framed entirely by a detailed, circular oak wreath.
