0.2760 troy oz N/A 359 - 336 BC Almost Unc (NGC)

Struck during the era of 359 to 336 BC, this ancient gold stater of Macedonia represents a high point of classical artistry. The coin has survived the centuries in remarkable condition, certified in Almost Uncirculated status. Weighing 8.59 grams (with a gold content of 0.2760 troy ounces), this piece showcases the exceptional skill of ancient minters who carved intricate dies by hand. The obverse of the coin features a beautifully detailed, right-facing portrait of the god Apollo, adorned with a laurel wreath. On the reverse, the design shifts to a scene of motion and speed, depicting a skilled charioteer guiding a biga, which is a chariot pulled by two horses, as they gallop to the right. Positioned beneath the horses is a small thunderbolt symbol. In the exergue, the space below the primary design on the reverse, the name of the ruler, Philip, is inscribed to mark his authority over the issue.
