Struck during the monumental era of 336 to 300 BC, this silver drachm offers a direct connection to the ancient Macedonian empire under the rule of Alexander III, famously known as Alexander the Great. Weighing approximately 0.28 troy ounces, this silver coin served as a primary medium of exchange across a rapidly expanding ancient world. The obverse side of the coin features a detailed profile of the mythical hero Heracles facing right, draped in his signature lion skin headdress. This powerful image was a central symbol of strength and divine lineage for the Macedonian rulers. On the reverse, the god Zeus is depicted seated on a throne, facing left. In his hands, he holds a sceptre and an eagle, traditional symbols of his supreme authority.
