The half-ounce gold coin of Mexico stands as a striking example of artistic design and metallic evolution. Produced at the historic Casa de Moneda de México, the oldest minting institution in the Americas, this piece has transitioned in composition over the decades. Issues struck from 1981 to 1988 were composed of 0.900 fine gold, while those minted from 1991 onward feature a higher purity of 0.999 fine gold. The central bank of the nation, Banco de México, guarantees the weight and purity of these issues. On the obverse, the coin displays the Mexican National Shield in a detailed sculptural relief. This central emblem is encircled by the proud inscription "Estados Unidos Mexicanos". The reverse side presents a dramatic visual narrative, showcasing the iconic Winged Victory figure standing tall in the foreground. Behind her rise the majestic peaks of two famous Mexican volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. These pieces are struck in limited quantities, making certain years particularly elusive.
