1.0000 troy oz .999 Brilliant Unc

The Mexican Silver Libertad stands as a premier example of modern coinage, combining high purity with a design that honors the nation's struggle for independence. Produced at La Casa de Moneda de México, the oldest operating mint in North America, this series has been struck annually since its debut in 1982. Backed by the central bank, Banco de México, each coin contains one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, making it a highly respected issue on the global stage. The visual narrative of the coin has evolved over the decades. On the reverse, the Winged Victory statue, representing the Angel of Independence, stands before the iconic volcanic peaks of Mexico. For coins minted from 1982 to 1995, a front-facing depiction of the Angel was used. This imagery was updated in 1996 to showcase a three-quarter side profile of the monument, a design that continues to this day alongside inscriptions detailing the weight, purity, and year of manufacture. On the obverse, the central focus is the Mexican national shield, which shows an eagle perched on a cactus devouring a snake. While earlier issues featured a simpler layout, the design was updated in the year 2000 to surround the central emblem with a circular array of historical national coats of arms used throughout Mexico's past. Because annual mintage numbers fluctuate and are often kept quite low, exploring the different years of this series offers a fascinating look into the subtle design shifts of a classic North American coin.
