Dating back to the Archaic period of Greek coinage, between 500 and 450 BC, this silver drachm from the ancient city of Parium in Mysia offers a fascinating glimpse into early classical artistry. Weighing approximately 3.17 grams, the coin represents a time when metalwork and mythology first converged on circulating currency. The front of the coin features the dramatic, forward-facing head of a Gorgon, a powerful protective image in ancient Greek culture.
