Struck during the formative years of the Roman Empire, this silver denarius offers a direct connection to the reign of Augustus, who ruled from 27 BC to 14 AD. This particular specimen was minted between 15 and 13 BC in Lugdunum, a prominent Roman city located in ancient Gaul. Weighing 3.53 grams, the coin contains approximately 0.12 troy ounces of silver, carrying the weight and feel of ancient commerce. The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Augustus, accompanied by the clear inscription AVGVSTVS CAESAR. On the reverse, a powerful bull is depicted in a dynamic butting stance, facing left. This side of the coin bears the inscription IMP X, signifying a major imperial milestone. Preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, this artifact survives with incredible detail, allowing modern observers to appreciate the artistry of Roman provincial mints.
