Roman AR Denarius Faustina Sr. (138-140/1 AD) Fine NGC (Random)
This ancient silver denarius offers a direct connection to the second century, minted during the brief period between 138 AD and 140 or 141 AD. As a primary denomination of the Roman monetary system, the denarius circulated widely across the empire, carrying both economic value and imperial imagery to distant provinces. The obverse of this silver coin displays a right-facing portrait of Empress Faustina the Elder, wife of Emperor Antoninus Pius. While the front of the coin honors the empress, the reverse designs on these issues vary from coin to coin, presenting different historical motifs. Each surviving piece has been certified in Fine condition, showcasing the honest wear of ancient commerce while preserving the distinct features of Roman artistry.
