Dating back to the years 117 to 116 BC, this silver denarius offers a direct connection to the Roman Republic. Struck at the Rome Mint, the coin represents the classic currency of the ancient Mediterranean, containing 0.12 troy ounces of silver. The obverse side displays the helmeted head of Rome looking toward the right. On the reverse, the goddess Victory is depicted guiding a biga, a traditional two-horse chariot. The inscription ROMA is also present, anchoring this artifact to the heart of the ancient republic. This specimen survives in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated more than two millennia ago.
