Struck during the turbulent years of 46 to 45 BC, this silver denarius is a remarkable survivor from the final years of the Roman Republic. Unlike coins produced in the capital, this piece was minted by a mobile military facility traveling with Julius Caesar during his campaigns in Spain. Weighing approximately 3.89 grams, the coin contains about 0.1200 troy ounces of silver, preserving a direct connection to the soldiers and logistics of ancient Roman warfare. The obverse of the coin features the right-facing profile of Venus wearing a diadem, with the small figure of Cupid positioned behind her shoulder. This imagery reflects the Julian family's traditional claim of divine ancestry. On the reverse, the design depicts a military trophy flanked by captive Gauls seated at its base, celebrating Caesar's northern conquests.
