Roman AR Denarius P. Cornelius Len. Marcellinus 50 BC VG Cr-439/1

0.1200 troy oz 50 BC Very Good

Struck during the final decades of the Roman Republic, this silver denarius dates to approximately 50 BC. It represents a fascinating period of Roman coinage where moneyers celebrated the monumental achievements of their ancestors. This particular issue was authorized by P. Cornelius Lentulus Marcellinus, who used the medium of silver to honor his lineage. The obverse of the coin displays the right-facing portrait of M. Claudius Marcellinus, accompanied by the legible inscription MARCELL. On the reverse, the design depicts a powerful scene of M. Claudius carrying a military trophy directly into a temple, capturing a moment of triumph and religious dedication in ancient Rome. This historic silver piece is cataloged as Cr-439/1 and Sydenham 1147, and it survives today in Very Good condition.
