Minted between 269 and 271 AD, the coin represents the brief and dramatic reign of the emperor Victorinus. This specific piece was recovered from the South Petherton Hoard, a significant archaeological discovery that links the coin directly to ancient soil. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed portrait of Victorinus, depicted as a right-facing bust. He wears a radiate crown, draped clothing, and protective body armor, or a cuirass, signaling his military authority. On the reverse, the design features the standing figure of Virtus, the Roman deity of bravery and military strength, facing right.
