Roman BI Nummus Constantine II (337-340 AD) MS (RIC VII 539)

0.0000 troy oz 337-340 AD Uncirculated

Struck during the brief reign of Constantine II from 337 to 340 AD, this billon nummus offers a remarkably preserved glimpse into the late Roman Empire. Classified under the reference RIC VII 539, this particular specimen has survived in an exceptional Mint State, or uncirculated, condition, preserving the intricate details of its ancient artistry. The obverse of the coin displays a right-facing bust of Emperor Constantine II. He is depicted wearing a laurel wreath and dressed in military cuirass armor, projecting the traditional image of imperial authority and leadership. On the reverse, the design shifts to a classic military motif. Two Roman soldiers stand facing one another, each holding a spear and a shield. Positioned between them are two military standards, a common symbol of the legions' strength and unity. This coin was produced at the historic mint in Trier, located in modern-day Germany, which served as a major administrative and minting center for the Western Roman Empire.
