During the turbulent third century, the Roman Empire expressed its triumphs and imperial authority directly through its circulating silver coinage. This ancient denarius, minted during the brief reign of Emperor Maximinus I between 235 and 238 AD, serves as a remarkable survivor of that era. Struck in silver with a diameter of approximately 19 mm, the coin reflects the traditional artistry of the Roman mints, preserved today in a certified Very Fine state. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed, right-facing portrait bust of the soldier-emperor Maximinus I. Surrounding his likeness is the legible Latin inscription MAXIIMINVS PIVS AVG GERM, a title that proclaims his authority and connects him to his military campaigns. On the reverse, the coin features the personification of Victory, a central theme in imperial propaganda. Accompanying this figure is the inscription VICTORIA GERM, celebrating Roman military achievements in the Germanic territories.
