Struck during the tumultuous years of 222 to 235 AD, this silver denarius offers a direct connection to the imperial court of ancient Rome. The coin features Julia Mamaea, a powerful figure of the Severan dynasty who exercised significant influence during the reign of her son, the emperor Alexander Severus. This specific piece has survived the centuries in a certified Very Fine state of preservation, retaining much of its original detail. The obverse of the coin displays a right-facing portrait of Julia Mamaea. Her draped bust is adorned with a diadem, capturing the formal imperial styling of a Roman empress. On the reverse, the coin depicts the personification of Felicitas, the goddess of good fortune and prosperity.
