During the turbulent middle of the third century, the Roman Empire produced distinctive silver coinage that offers a window into the ancient world. This particular double denarius, minted between 249 AD and 251 AD, represents the brief rule of Emperor Trajan Decius. Crafted from silver, the coin carries a physical weight of 0.1800 troy ounces, surviving today as a tangible artifact of imperial Rome. The obverse of the coin displays a right-facing portrait of Trajan Decius. His bust is depicted wearing both armor and a radiate crown, a traditional numismatic symbol used to denote the double denarius denomination.
