Struck during the late first century, this gold Aureus offers a direct connection to the height of the Roman Empire under the reign of Emperor Domitian, who ruled from 81 to 96 AD. Weighing approximately 7 grams with a gold content of 0.2100 troy ounces, this coin represents the standard of wealth and imperial propaganda that circulated throughout the ancient Mediterranean world. The obverse side of the coin features a right-facing portrait of Domitian adorned with a laurel wreath. Surrounding his likeness is the legible Latin inscription CAESAR AVG F DOMITIANVS, identifying his imperial lineage and status.
