Struck in the ancient city of Rome during the era of the Roman Republic, this silver denarius dates back to 131 BC. Weighing 3.9 grams, the coin represents a fascinating era of classical moneyers and artistry, preserved today in Very Fine condition. The front of the coin displays the profile of Roma wearing a helmet as she faces right. A small tripod sits positioned to the left of her portrait. On the back, the deity Apollo guides a two-horse chariot, known as a biga, at a full gallop toward the right. In his hands, he holds a bow with an arrow aimed upward toward the sky.
