Roman Republic Denarius c. 46 BC T. Carisius Ch VF (Cr 464/3c)
Dating back to approximately 46 BC, this silver denarius offers a tangible connection to the late Roman Republic. Minted during a period of immense political transition, the coin represents the classic artistry of ancient Roman moneyers, specifically attributed to the issuer T. Carisius. The obverse of this silver piece features the profile of Roma, the personification of the state, depicted wearing an uncrested helmet and facing to the right. The reverse side presents a complex arrangement of symbols representing power and abundance: a cornucopia rests upon a globe, flanked by a sceptre on one side and a rudder on the other. This imagery is accompanied by the inscribed name of the moneyer, T. Carisius. Struck in silver with a weight of approximately 3.7 grams, this ancient coin has survived more than two millennia. It is preserved in Choice Very Fine condition, allowing modern observers to appreciate the fine details of its classical engraving.
