This ancient Roman silver denarius offers a direct connection to the imperial court of the second century. Measuring approximately 18 mm in diameter and weighing 3.2 grams, the coin is struck in silver, the standard precious metal of daily commerce and state payments in the Roman world. The obverse of the coin displays a right-facing portrait bust of Faustina Junior, who was a prominent figure of the imperial family. Surrounding her likeness is the clearly legible Latin inscription FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, a title marking her elevated status as empress. Having survived for nearly two millennia, this particular specimen has been preserved in Choice Very Fine condition. It serves as a remarkable testament to ancient minting techniques, where each coin was individually struck by hand using hand-carved dies.
