This ancient silver denarius originates from the Roman Empire, minted during the brief and turbulent reign of Emperor Maximinus I, who ruled from 235 to 238 AD. Despite its incredible age, the coin has survived in Choice Extra Fine condition, offering a remarkably clear window into the classical world. On the obverse side, the coin displays a right-facing portrait bust of Maximinus I. This profile is framed by the legible Latin inscription MAXIIMINVS PIVS AVG GERM, marking his imperial titles. The reverse side of the coin depicts Pax, the Roman goddess of peace, standing gracefully. This side bears the inscription PAX AVGVSTI, a common imperial motif celebrating the peace of the emperor. Struck in approximately 0.10 ounces of silver, this historical artifact measures about 19 millimeters in diameter. It represents a classic denomination of Roman commerce, preserved well enough to showcase the detailed artistry of third-century Roman die-engravers.
