This ancient silver drachm, minted during the years 457 to 484 AD, offers a fascinating look into the artistry of the Sasanian Empire. Struck in silver with a weight of approximately 0.12 ounces and a diameter of about 32 millimeters, this specimen survives in an exceptional Almost Uncirculated state of preservation. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed right-facing profile of King Peroz, also known as Firuz. He is depicted wearing an elaborate crown adorned with a crescent and a spherical globe, while a delicate crescent rests just above his forehead. A ribbon is shown draping from his right shoulder, and his ear is decorated with a distinct three-beaded earring. A single pointed border frames this entire royal portrait. On the reverse, the coin features a traditional Zoroastrian fire altar, which is guarded on both sides by standing attendants. Near the top of the altar, a star and a crescent flank the rising flames, completing the symbolic religious imagery of the Sasanian court.
