Sasanian Kings Silver Drachm King Khusru II (591-628 AD) MS NGC
This silver drachm originates from the Sasanian Empire, minted during the reign of King Khusru II, who ruled from 591 to 628 AD. Struck in silver with a weight of approximately 0.12 ounces, this ancient coin measures about 32 millimeters in diameter. It survives today in an exceptional uncirculated state, offering a remarkably clear window into the artistic traditions of late antiquity. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed, right-facing bust of King Khusru II wearing an elaborate Sassanian-style crown. On the reverse, the design features a central fire altar, a core element of the empire's religious iconography, flanked by two attendants. A star and a crescent moon are positioned on either side of the rising flames, completing a powerful symbolic scene.
