Seljuk Sultanate Pale Gold Dinar (1072-1092 AD) VF (Crusades)
Seljuk Sultanate Pale Gold Dinar (1072-1092 AD) VF (Crusades)
Dating from the years 1072 to 1092, this dinar originates from the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum, a powerful medieval state. Unlike typical high-purity gold coinage of the era, this specific issue is struck in pale gold, an intriguing alloy composed of approximately 80 percent silver and 20 percent gold. This distinctive metallic composition gives the coin its unique, lighter coloration, offering a fascinating glimpse into the metallurgy of the period. The coin's design is heavily centered on elegant calligraphy, reflecting the artistic and religious traditions of the Islamic world. The obverse is adorned with a passage from the Quran, carefully arranged either in the center of the field or running along the border. On the reverse, the design features either an imperial monogram or the name of the reigning king written in Arabic script. Surviving in Very Fine condition, these dinars serve as remarkable physical artifacts from the era of the Crusades.
