The Spanish Colonial 1 Real cob is a fascinating window into the era of hand-struck coinage. Unlike the perfectly round, machine-made coins of later years, these silver pieces were produced using a crude hammering process. This method gave each individual cob a completely unique shape and character, reflecting the urgent need to convert refined silver into transportable currency. On one side of the coin, a detailed coat of arms is surrounded by an inscription. The other side displays the iconic Cross of Jerusalem, with traditional castles and lions nestled within its angles.
