The piece was retrieved from the wreckage of the El Cazador, a Spanish vessel that sank to the ocean floor. Minted in Mexico City and other colonial facilities throughout New Spain, these coins played a vital role in the commerce of the Spanish Empire. The design of this silver piece features crowned globes flanked by the iconic Pillars of Hercules on the obverse. The reverse displays the crowned Spanish coat of arms, also framed by the majestic pillars. Struck from 90.3 percent pure silver, each surviving coin has been officially certified as a genuine artifact recovered from the historic shipwreck site, offering a tangible connection to eighteenth-century seafaring.
