During the final decades of the nineteenth century, Sweden produced a beautiful series of gold coins that circulated throughout Scandinavia. Struck between 1873 and 1901, these ten kronor pieces are composed of 90 percent pure gold, representing a total precious metal content of 0.1296 troy ounces. They survive today in brilliant uncirculated condition, offering a remarkably preserved look at the artistry of the era. The front of the coin displays a detailed, right-facing portrait of King Oscar II, who ruled Sweden and Norway during this period.
