$1 Liberty Head Gold Dollar Type 1 BU (Random Year)

0.0484 troy oz .900 Brilliant Unc

In the nineteenth century, the United States Mint introduced a remarkably small gold coin that carried a face value of one dollar. This early gold issue, known as the Type 1 Liberty Head, contains 0.0483 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 90 percent. Over the decades, vast numbers of these delicate coins were melted down, making the surviving specimens particularly intriguing to study today. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, her hair bound by a band clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Thirteen stars encircle her image, representing the original colonies. On the reverse, the coin displays its denomination of 1 DOLLAR alongside the specific year of minting, all framed by the arched inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This particular example is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, offering a remarkably clear look at a design from a bygone era of American currency.
