2010-W 1/2 oz Gold Buchanan's Liberty MS-69 PCGS

0.5000 troy oz .9999 2010 PCGS

Introduced as a part of the United States Mint's First Spouse series, this ten-dollar gold coin presents a unique historical solution. Because President James Buchanan never married, this issue features a classic representation of Lady Liberty on its obverse, paired with a narrative scene from Buchanan's youth on the reverse. The obverse showcases the Liberty Head design originally created by Christian Gobrecht for the Quarter Eagle series, which circulated from 1840 to 1907. This elegant profile of Liberty is surrounded by the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year 2010, alongside the historical dates of Buchanan's presidency, 1857 to 1861. This era immediately preceded the American Civil War. Struck at the West Point Mint from one-half ounce of 0.9999 fine gold, the reverse of the coin illustrates a young James Buchanan working diligently in a rural country store. The reverse inscriptions highlight the nation of issue, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the denomination of $10, and the weight and purity of the precious metal. This specific coin has been certified in a high-grade Mint State 69 condition, preserving its sharp details and historic artistry.
