$1 Liberty Head Gold Dollar Type 1 MS-61 NGC/PCGS

0.0484 troy oz .900 MS-61 (PCGS &/or NGC)

This tiny gold dollar represents a fascinating era in United States coinage. Struck with a composition containing 0.0483 troy ounces of gold, this Type 1 Liberty Head coin is a survivor of a bygone age. Over the generations, vast numbers of these delicate gold pieces were melted down, making the remaining specimens highly intriguing to explore. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a hair band clearly inscribed with her name, and thirteen stars encircle her image to represent the original colonies. On the reverse, the design is dedicated to the coin's utility, displaying the denomination and the year of issue framed by the words United States of America. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 61 (MS-61) condition. Having survived the melting pots that claimed so many of its peers, it remains a beautiful example of mid-nineteenth-century American gold minting.
