1794 Head of 1795 Large Cent Fine Details

0.0000 troy oz 1794 Fine

In the early years of the United States Mint, copper coinage served as the backbone of daily commerce. Among these early issues is the 1794 Large Cent, specifically the variety known as the Head of 1795. Struck in pure copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin represents a fascinating moment in early American manufacturing, where multiple distinct design varieties emerged within a single year's production run. The obverse of this historic cent features a depiction of Liberty accompanied by a classic liberty cap. On the reverse side, a delicate wreath encircles the denomination, which is spelled out as ONE CENT. Encircling this central motif is the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, while the fractional representation of the denomination, 1/100, is positioned at the bottom of the design. Out of a total mintage of 918,521 pieces for the year, production was distributed across six major design variations. This particular specimen, designed by Robert Scot, is preserved in Fine details, offering a tangible look at the craftsmanship of the late eighteenth century.
