1800/79 Draped Bust Large Cent AG

0.0000 troy oz 1800 Almost Good

In the earliest days of the United States Mint, resourcefulness was a necessity. This copper large cent, struck in Philadelphia in the year 1800, showcases a fascinating physical record of that era's coin production. The piece features an overdate, where the digits of the year 1800 were engraved directly over an existing 1799 die, leaving a tangible trace of the transition between two centuries. Designed by Robert Scot, the obverse of the coin presents the classic Draped Bust representation of Liberty. On the reverse, a delicate wreath encircles the denomination of ONE CENT, which is paired with the fractional representation of 1/100. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA wraps around the outer border. Out of an original mintage of 2,822,175, this specimen survives in Almost Good condition, offering a heavily circulated but deeply evocative look at early American money.
