In the early years of the United States, the copper cent was a fundamental part of daily commerce. The 1805 Large Cent represents this foundational era of American coinage, struck in pure copper at the Philadelphia Mint. This particular issue, preserved in Good condition, showcases the wear and character of a coin that actively circulated during the Jefferson administration. The obverse features the Draped Bust interpretation of Liberty, a classic early American motif designed by Robert Scot. Liberty is depicted facing right, with her hair flowing downward, while the year 1805 is positioned clearly below the bust. On the reverse, the coin features a simple and elegant design centered around the denomination. The words indicating one cent are enclosed within a decorative wreath, a standard motif for the nation's earliest base-metal coins. With a total mintage of 941,116 pieces, this coin is a tangible survivor from the first decades of the United States Mint.
