1827 Large Cent VG

In the early decades of the United States Mint, copper was the foundation of everyday commerce. The 1827 Large Cent represents this era beautifully, struck in pure copper at the Philadelphia Mint. This substantial coin carries a presence quite different from the smaller cents in circulation today, serving as a tangible link to the daily transactions of the early nineteenth century. The obverse features the Matron Head portrait of Liberty, facing right, with her hair bound by a band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Below the bust, the year 1827 is clearly struck. This design, created by John Reich, presents a dignified and mature depiction of the national symbol. On the reverse, the coin displays a classic wreath that encircles the denomination ONE CENT. Surrounding this central wreath, the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is struck along the outer perimeter. This specimen survives in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated through the hands of early Americans.
