1835 Large Cent XF-40 NGC

0.0000 troy oz 1835 NGC

In 1835, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 3,878,400 copper large cents. These substantial copper coins were a staple of early American commerce, carrying a presence and weight that contrasts sharply with the smaller cents of today. This particular specimen has survived the intervening centuries in Extremely Fine condition, certified at a grade of XF-40. The obverse of the coin features the word LIBERTY inscribed above the portrait, with the year 1835 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, the central denomination of ONE CENT is encircled, surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Because it was struck in Philadelphia during this era, the coin bears no mintmark, leaving its clean surfaces to showcase the early craftsmanship of the young nation's primary minting facility.
