0.0775 troy oz .8924 1836 Very Fine

The year 1836 marked a fascinating era in American coinage, captured beautifully in the design of this silver dime. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this ten-cent piece belongs to the beloved Capped Bust series. Crafted from a silver alloy with a purity of 0.8924, the coin contains 0.0775 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, allowing observers to appreciate the fine details of its early nineteenth-century artistry. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty faces left, her head adorned with a traditional Phrygian cap. Her wavy hair flows freely down the back of her neck. Encircling this central portrait are thirteen stars, which pay tribute to the original colonies that formed the United States. The year of production, 1836, is clearly struck at the bottom of the design. The reverse of the dime presents a powerful national symbol: an eagle perched with a shield draped across its chest. In its talons, the eagle clutches both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual concepts of peace and defense. The legendary motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is featured alongside the surrounding inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination indicated as "10 C."
