0.0715 troy oz .900 1839 Very Good

Introduced in the late 1830s, the Liberty Seated design remains one of the most enduring and recognizable motifs in the history of United States coinage. This 1839 dime, struck in 90% silver, represents an early year for the iconic series. It carries a silver content of 0.0715 troy ounces and is backed as official currency by the United States government. The obverse of this ten-cent piece showcases Liberty in a seated position. In her hands, she supports a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her other hand rests upon a shield. This elegant composition was created by Christian Gobrecht, whose work defined the look of American silver coinage for generations. On the reverse, the coin features the denomination spelled out as ONE DIME, surrounded by a delicate wreath. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arches around the outer border. Having survived over a century and a half, this circulated specimen has earned a grade of Very Good, displaying the honest wear of a coin that once passed through the hands of early Americans.
