This gold ten-dollar piece, minted in 1841, represents a fascinating survivor from the early years of the United States Liberty Head gold eagle series. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint during an era before the facility utilized mintmarks, this coin is composed of 90 percent gold and contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. Out of an original mintage of just 63,131 pieces, very few have survived in such an exceptional state of preservation. The obverse features the classic profile of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with her name, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the 1841 date positioned below. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle clutches an olive branch and arrows, encircled by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination TEN D. This specific specimen has been certified in Choice About Uncirculated condition, graded AU-58+, indicating it retains nearly all of its original design details and luster from the day it was struck.
