1843 Liberty Seated Dime Fine

0.0715 troy oz .900 1843 Fine

The 1843 Liberty Seated dime represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this ten-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Having survived in circulated Fine condition, the coin bears the gentle wear of its journey through nineteenth-century commerce while retaining its defining artistic details. On the obverse, the design by Christian Gobrecht features Lady Liberty seated upon a rock. In her left hand, she supports a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, while her right hand rests upon a shield. The year 1843 is inscribed clearly below the figure. The reverse displays a simple, elegant wreath that encircles the denomination, surrounded by the legend of the issuing nation.
