1845 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle AU-55 NGC

0.4838 troy oz .900 1845 NGC

In 1845, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of ten-dollar gold coins, striking just 26,153 pieces. Because these coins were intended for active commerce in a growing nation, finding an example today that has escaped heavy wear is a notable occurrence for those who appreciate early American coinage. This particular ten-dollar gold coin has been certified in About Uncirculated 55 (AU-55) condition, indicating it retained much of its original detail despite briefly entering circulation. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. As an issue from the main Philadelphia facility, it bears no mint mark. The obverse features the classic Liberty design, accompanied by the year of production, 1845, stamped below the portrait. The reverse displays the traditional eagle motif, surrounded by the denomination expressed as "TEN D." at the bottom of the design.
