1846 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle AU-53 PCGS

0.4838 troy oz .900 1846 PCGS

In 1846, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of ten-dollar gold coins, striking just 20,095 pieces. Today, surviving examples offer a tangible look at mid-nineteenth-century American coinage. This particular specimen is preserved in About Uncirculated AU 53 condition, retaining much of its original detail from the year it was minted. Crafted from 90 percent pure gold, the coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. Because it was struck at the main mint facility in Philadelphia, it bears no mint mark. The obverse displays the classic Liberty portrait dated 1846, while the reverse features the heraldic eagle surrounded by the legend denoting the United States of America and the ten-dollar face value.
