Minted during an era when gold coins were active participants in American commerce, this 1847 ten dollar piece represents a design tradition that spanned from 1838 to 1907. While 862,258 of these coins were originally produced, a significant portion of the mintage was melted down over the decades, making surviving specimens in Extra Fine condition notable survivors of monetary history.
