1849-1857 Braided Hair Half Cent XF

0.0000 troy oz Extra Fine

During the mid-nineteenth century, the United States minted a small but significant copper denomination known as the half cent. Between the years 1849 and 1857, these pieces featured the elegant Braided Hair motif on the obverse, showcasing a refined portrait style that defined the era's circulating copper coinage. Strikingly detailed even in smaller denominations, these coins represent a fascinating period in early American currency. The reverse of the coin is framed by the bold inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" running along the outer perimeter. Nestled safely inside this circular legend is a delicate wreath that encircles the face value, "HALF CENT". Preserved in Extra Fine condition, these surviving copper pieces allow us to appreciate the fine lines of the wreath and the crispness of the original engraving from the Philadelphia Mint.
