1850 Large Cent VF
In the middle of the nineteenth century, the United States circulating coinage included a substantial copper piece known simply as the Large Cent. The 1850 issue represents a fascinating era in American coining history, struck in pure copper at the Philadelphia Mint. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, showing a pleasing amount of detail from its time in active circulation. The obverse of this coin features the classic Liberty head design, showing a left-facing portrait of Liberty with her hair bound. On the reverse side, the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircle a delicate wreath, which itself frames the central denomination of ONE CENT.
