0.0000 troy oz 1850 Very Good

In the middle of the nineteenth century, American pocket change looked remarkably different than it does today. The 1850 large cent is a striking reminder of this era, minted from pure copper at the Philadelphia facility. This substantial coin, carrying a face value of just one cent, represents a time when even the smallest denominations were minted with impressive size and weight. The obverse of this piece displays the Classic Head Liberty design, showcasing a stylized profile of Liberty facing right, with the year 1850 clearly struck below the portrait. This design reflects the evolving artistic traditions of early United States coinage, bringing a sense of classical dignity to everyday commerce. On the reverse, the coin features a delicate wreath that encircles the central denomination, which is spelled out simply as ONE CENT. Encircling this central motif along the outer border is the bold inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This particular specimen survives in Very Good condition, offering a tangible connection to the daily transactions of mid-nineteenth-century America.
