1850 Liberty Seated Dime VG

0.0715 troy oz .900 1850 Very Good

Struck in the decade preceding the American Civil War, this 1850 silver dime offers a tangible connection to the mid-nineteenth century. Minted in Philadelphia, the ten-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. Despite the passage of time and the wear of circulation, the coin retains the essential elements of its historic design, graded in Very Good condition. The obverse of the coin showcases the Liberty Seated motif, a celebrated creation of artist Christian Gobrecht. Liberty is depicted resting on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand, while her other hand supports a shield. The date 1850 is positioned directly beneath her. On the reverse, a delicate wreath wraps around the central denomination, which reads "ONE DIME." The surrounding inscription proudly displays "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," representing its status as an official sovereign coin backed by the United States government.
