1851 Half Cent BU (Brown)

0.0000 troy oz 1851 Brilliant Unc

In 1851, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 147,672 copper half cents, representing an early era of circulating coinage in the United States. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, retaining its original details and a distinct brown copper coloration that highlights the artistry of the mid-nineteenth century. The obverse features a profile of Liberty, her hair neatly braided and secured by a coronet. This elegant portrait was created by Christian Gobrecht. On the reverse, a simple wreath wraps around the center of the coin, framing the denomination. The inscriptions on the coin are straightforward and clear, reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the reverse alongside HALF CENT, while the year 1851 is struck boldly beneath the Liberty portrait on the obverse.
