The year 1851 marked an era of classic American coinage, exemplified by this Liberty Seated silver dime. Struck with a silver purity of 0.900, this ten-cent piece contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Because this particular issue was minted in Philadelphia, it does not display a mint mark, making it a pure representation of the main United States minting facility's output during the pre-1933 era. Designed by the noted artist Christian Gobrecht, the obverse of the coin presents a graceful depiction of Lady Liberty. She is shown seated, holding a shield in her right hand while her left hand supports a pole topped with a liberty cap. The year 1851 is anchored firmly at the bottom of the design. The reverse side of the coin focuses on simplicity and national identity. A delicate wreath wraps around the center of the field, enclosing the stated denomination of "ONE DIME".
