In 1851, the New Orleans Mint struck a limited run of 263,000 ten-dollar gold coins, known today as the Liberty Gold Eagle. This particular specimen survives in an impressive state of preservation, certified as About Uncirculated AU 55. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal, representing a tangible connection to the mid nineteenth century American monetary system. The obverse features a classic profile of Liberty, her hair styled in a neat bun secured by a string of pearls, with a tiara inscribed with her name. Thirteen stars representing the original colonies encircle the portrait, with the year 1851 anchored at the bottom.
